Meet Our Vets
Dr Michael Walzcak - B. V.Sc (Hons) - Practice Owner
Michael graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1979, then worked in mixed practice in Mildura and Seymour. He returned to Melbourne in 1981 and worked at Monash Vet Clinic which specialised in greyhounds and movement disorders of show dogs. He has been at Doncaster Veterinary Hospital since 1985.
Michael is a great believer that children benefit from growing up with pets and following on from this, pets become good companions through our entire life. The human/pet bond can be as strong as family ties.
Michael is married to Debbie with 3 children (Claire, Christine and Mark). They live with the lovable Oscar, a Poodle X Bichon and new addition, Luna the cat. Michael's 'grand'-cat Frank, a Ragdoll, also visits regularly when his daughter Clare is on holidays and loves to beat up Oscar. In his spare time he is a 'tragic' Melbourne AFL supporter, loves good food, wine and conversation, can't get enough time for golf and longs for lazy holidays and seafood at Noosa beach. Michael has also recently become a grandfather to a gorgeous little boy!
Dr Hootan Shah - DVM, B. V.Sc
Hootan started his career as a mixed practitioner and worked for 3 years before migrating to Australia. To register as a veterinarian in Australia he completed the final 2 years of Veterinary Science at Melbourne University and graduated in 2011. Since then he has worked in small animal practice and joined the team at Doncaster Vet in 2013.
Hootan is married to Ara, has two dogs, "Ziba" a Chihuahua mix and Asha a Chihuahua, and is about to become a first time father in August. In his free time he enjoys playing soccer, writing poetry in Persian and classical singing. Hootan is one of the only Persian speaking vets in Melbourne.
Dr Michael Yeung - B. Sc, B. V.Sc
Michael is from San Francisco, California. He graduated in 2013 from the University of Melbourne and has joined the DVH team in 2014. Prior to veterinary school, he worked as a Registered Veterinary Technician in the States for over 6 years where he has developed an aptitude in caring for sick patients.
Mike has a cat called Balvenie (named after the Whisky) and Ruby, a crazy German Shepherd. In his free time, he practices Japanese fencing (kendo) and enjoys hiking, playing the guitar and keeping an assortment of freshwater tropical fish. He is a Cantonese speaking vet and is currently studying Mandarin too.
Dr Janice Lao - B. Sc DVM
Janice grew up in Toronto Canada and kept 4 turtles! In 2012 when she was 23, Janice came to Melbourne to study Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne. After graduating, she moved back to Toronto, but her love of Australia was too much and she moved back to Melbourne again.
Janice lives in Melbourne with her partner and her cat with many names, Gado. She joined us in January 2019 and she is also a Cantonese speaking vet! Janice plays the piano and enjoys rock climbing.
Dr Jayne Dickenson - B VetBiol B. V.Sc
Jayne was lucky enough to grow up in country Victoria with a menagerie of animals including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, horses and chickens among others. At school, she was always interested in science and biology. Paired with her love of animals, becoming a vet was the natural choice.
She moved to Melbourne to study Animal Science at the University of Melbourne and then transferred to Charles Sturt University to study veterinary medicine. Jayne joined us in April 2019 and is loving living in the eastern suburbs. She enjoys bushwalking, yoga, running and spending time with her cat Sunny.
